My name is Amichai Lankri. When I was born my grandmother had to write my name down on a tissue box just to remember it.

I love wood. I love to work with wood, smelling it, reading it, discovering all of its idiosyncrasies and its stories. Its strong fibres form a noble material, the foundation of countless civilisations.

As a child I hoarded driftwood, beach glass and feathers collected from the shores of the Mornington Peninsula, and coerced these treasures into furniture, sculptures and jewellery.

Now taller and bearded, I still hold the same reverence for beautiful materials and meet the wealth of today's well considered design with wonder.

Based in Melbourne, Mandrake Workshop is an independent company that celebrates the beauty of recycled materials and marries them with intentional functional design. It is always dynamic and challenging work that is a great teacher.

The relationships held with clients throughout the design & manufacturing process are open and collaborative. The growth of their projects is a direct response to their aesthetic desires and functional needs.

I would like to acknowledge the unwavering support that has greeted me at every step of this journey. Thank you to my love, my family & my friends for your empowering faith in me.

In particular I would like to thank Carly Michael for sharing her remarkable photography skills & the beautiful images on this site.

The mandrakes send out their fragrance, and at our door is every delicacy, both new and old, that I have stored up for you, my beloved.
